There are very few things in this life that are as magical as a new life.
And although hatching baby chicks doesn't compare to the birth of your own child a niece or nephew or grand baby, it is still a magical moment.
My family had the pleasure of sharing this experience over the weekend and let me tell you, it was everything I thought it would be and then some!
The anticipation of watching a small pip in the shell until that chick FINALLY pushes their way into the world can be overwhelming. I said many times that I just wanted to reach in there and help. Of course, you can't do that but it was agonizing at times.
So, we welcomed 14 new chicks to the farm on Saturday. It was actually only a 70% hatch rate which is pretty low, but since we had lost power during incubation for 8-10 hours I am very happy with how things turned out. All chicks are vibrant, healthy, and feet and legs are nice and strong!
I'm cleaning the incubator with our about to be launched biosecurity cleaner (as soon as we have a start date on that I will let you know) and ready to find some more eggs and get them set. I'm hoping to get my own flock put together with this next hatch and will then start having chicks and pullets for sale.
